Groundhog Sees His Shadow Locally

Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow back east as clouds and snow covered the area so spring may be just around the corner. Locally however, any of these vermin that ventured out of their den
did see their shadow despite filtered sunshine through high clouds, so for us, six more weeks of winter.

NOWCAST -
Another nice day today with the trend for more clouds over the weekend with warming temperatures both day time and overnight with a chance of light rain or showers late Saturday and early Sunday.

FORECAST -
Today: Partly sunny. Highs around 50. Light wind except east wind 10 to 20 mph near the gorge decreasing in the afternoon.

Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows 25 to 30 light wind..

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Highs 45 to 50. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Lows 35 to 40. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Seven Day Trend -Warmer with more clouds, chance of spotty rain over the weekend and again around mid week. Main storm track still not aimed directly at our local area. Expect weather forecasts to be kinda, sorta, wishy washy until an established weather pattern takes hold.

OUTCAST - Did you see the very bright Full Snow Moon last evening? It was about as bright as it can get with the very clear skies and absence of haze overhead.

Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner!

Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/07 at 7:28 a.m. at Gobbler's Knob:

"El Nino has caused high winds, heavy snow, ice and freezing temperatures in the west.
Here in the East with much mild winter weather we have been blessed.

Global warming has caused a great debate.
This mild winter makes it seem just great.

On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing.
Will we have winter or will we have spring?

On Gobbler's Knob I see no shadow today.
I predict that early spring is on the way."

OFF TOPIC - Time to do your loyal duty and prepare your 2006 income taxes. I gathered most of my stuff and began the tedious task using the online version of Turbo Tax. I like watching the little box in the upper left hand corner spin around with the refund amount (although at times it went the other way). I think that is an incentive to keep digging for more deductions. Anyways, I got it done with a refund due to me but low and behold I couldn't complete the filing. Why not? One of the tax forms I need "hasn't been released by the taxing authority." Hey what's up with that? I find out that some of the changes in tax laws were not approved until the last minute by lawmakers so revision of some forms is still in progress. All forms should be ready by February 16 I was told. Oh well, money in the bank I guess but without interest paid to me!
