Wet and Wild April

NOWCAST - Several of those April showers were pretty heavy Tuesday and Wednesday accompanied with scattered hail and thunder. A few rainbows were seen and also funnel clouds. One was reported near Battle Ground/Venersborg area on Tuesday. This is the result of very cold air aloft. Plenty of fresh snow on Silver Star today. Things will settle down a bit Thursday with still a few showers about and Friday may be dry. Then chance of showers over the weekend. Things will stay rather cool to about normal for this time of the year.

OUTCAST - Thirty pounds chunks of falling ice and 156-mph winds were the work hazards of Mount Washington weather observers who toughed out Monday's storm at the summit. Read more

Tillamook - Land of sea breeze and Tillamook cheese . . . and funnel clouds! This picture (courtesy of Tillamook Library) was taken Tuesday from HWY 101 in Tillamook indicating the cold air aloft. We call these cold core funnel clouds. Had it touched the ground it would have been a tornado or over the ocean, a water spout.
